National Anti Vivisection Campaign

Bad Laws

Vivisectors often claim the system is well regulated and animals are protected under New Zealand law. They say New Zealand has one of the most stringent animal protection laws in the world. This is simply untrue.

While the current animal welfare act is inadequate in many areas, at least on paper it claims to be set up to protect animals from abuse. However Section Six of the Act, which deals with animal research, is entirely about protecting vivisectors from prosecution.

The National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee (NAEAC) administers animal research in New Zealand. Its members are appointed by government and vivisection industry bodies. many members are active vivisectors themselves and the one token animal welfare representative (from the RSPCA) has never spoken out or expressed any unease about vivisection at all.
