About the National Anti Vivisection Campaign
Since our formation we have investigated and exposed the activities of the vivisection industry in New Zealand. We hold public meetings, street stalls and protests, including major national anti vivisection protests. NAVC has also written and published reports and media backgrounders about animal research in Universities and Government research institutes. Our campaigns and events have resulted in dozens of national news stories about the animal research controversy. We aim to make vivisection a controversial public issue by running high profile media campaigns against vivisection in all of the main centres around the country. To do this we will work with local activists, advising them of what vivisection goes on in their area and how we think they can be most effective in their area. The NAVC plans to expose the horror of vivisection through a combination of investigations, educational and campaign materials, demonstrations and political campaigning. We will also help establish and continue local anti vivisection campaigns around the country. We work with animal rights groups around the country and we are in contact with overseas campaigning groups as well. We also plan to coordinate local support for international campaigns against vivisection. Our PolicyWe oppose animal experiments
on ethical and scientific grounds. We demand abolition of vivisection
on scientific grounds since the fundamental drawback of using animals
as models for human disease is that due to species differences the results
are both misleading and unreliable. We believe inflicting deliberate suffering
on animals is unethical and cruel. We recognise that animals are sentient
beings and as such they should have the basic right not to be treated
as the property of others.
